I tend to disagree for this case. The TD is effectively following the letter of the law and making that decision based on what the rules say.

Sorry, but this is just a ridiculous point of view. Any director that feels so handcuffed by the letter of the law to the point of being unable to render a fair and reasonable decision simply shouldn't be running a tournament. A situation is unforeseen in the rules, so the director is supposed to be a constitutional law expert and read the law as James Madison wrote it? No. Exercise some basic common sense.
