Even right after the shuffle there still can be a difference. One example is that in a race the trailer will be at a larger disadvantage than usual. He cannot get the same big doubles more than once and similarly the leader cannot get 21 twice. Thus it is more important than usual for the leader to steer towards a race.
Another example is that blitzes may be stronger. The blitzing side is much more likely to be able to take advantage of the skew in distribution a few rolls later than the blitzee with often forced plays is.
