Backgammon variant with slightly non-random dice

I think the biggest plus about this idea is that I get to strengthen my memory while playing a distorted form of backgammon. The closest analogy to chess may be restricting the number of squares my pieces are allowed to go to. The number of squares varies on each turn until the "deck" is reset and a new cycle begins.
