I think it's become more of a game of luck, for this reason: because of the bots, everyone who studies the game - and that means virtually all seriously players - becomes sufficiently skilled that for all intents and purposes, they're bumping up against perfection. To put it another way, a player with a PR of 3.0 can't get very much better,and players with a 5.0 or even higher don't need a whole lot of luck to beat a 3.0 player.If we had PR ratings for thirty years ago, I think we'd find a lot of highly esteemed players were actually playing to an 8.0 or even 12.0.
