Backgammon more of a "game of skill" now than in the past?

I think if the game used to be 80% skill and 20% luck, it's prob closer to 60/40 now. Especially between players of the same class. As an Intermediate player, I don't see my checker play being so much different than an Open player's, however I do believe I'm weaker at handling cube decisions.
