When the director said "I've already decided and redrawn so nothing to do about it now" you could have appealed. The tournament brochure says that the RULING COMMITTEE is:

Richard Munitz Carol Joy Cole Bill Riles

If they weren't at the tournament, the director would be obligated to appoint neutral, experienced backgammon players to be on the committee. You might (or might not) have won the appeal, but it was worth a shot.
