In Response To: Adding Backgammon to Proposed Legisation for Online Poker. (Perry Gartner)

Hi Perry,

I would provide proof that Backgammon has been declared a skill game in other countries and quote the laws that were passed about that in those countries.

I would get statements to the effect that Backgammon is a game of skill from authors of famous backgammon books, the presidents or committees of federations and associations in other countries (examples: Japan, Denmark, France, Greece, etc.), international tournament organizers (examples: WBF and WBA), consultants on the game (like me), respected mathematicians and so on.

I would gather statistics about how Backgammon is a tradition or pass-time in many other countries, Greece, Israel, all the Arab nations, Iran, many other Mediterranean countries, and so on - millions around the world play this game - in Greece alone, more than half the population enjoy the challenge of playing backgammon.

Provide a list of which famous people play backgammon, such as celebrities, politicians, scientists, etc.

If it is thought that backgammon is a gambling game and it is against the law to deposit money onto gambling sites from the USA, then why, if it is a U.S. company, does PayPal allow you to deposit money to play online backgammon from some 40 or more of the 50 states?

What I think is the most convincing thing about Backgammon being a game of skill is the criteria (Magriel's I believe?) that when you roll the dice and have two numbers to play and you have 15 different checkers to choose from to make your move - if there is only one best move, doesn’t determining the best move require a lot of skill?

I understand that you want to push this through with poker and the opportunity is now, but personally, from what I remember reading, certain "experts" have argued in these proceedings that poker is not a game of skill (which I do not agree with - it is all politics anyway) and therefore, I would not want to mix BG with Poker and get "classified" under the same verdict as poker.

I hope this helps.
