Statistics from tournaments

One idea would be to gather statistics on how well players do from tournament to tournament or from year to year. If you could show that players who do well one year tend to do well the following year at a much higher rate than you'd expect if tournament results were random, that could be a convincing argument that backgammon is predominantly skill, at least when played in a tournament.
