This is a common tactics employed by some online players. They count on you inadvertently agreeing to their offer -- they resign when it's your turn to move so that you might accidentally press the "yes" button because it appears right at the place where you intended to move your checker and you just can't help yourself but click on it.

I believe it was a deliberate act of cheating specific to online play. One simple way to combat this is to have software prohibit offers of resignation when it is not your turn to move.
