Online PR vs Live PR

This may have to do with the quality of the board for live play?!

In the other game I play (international checkers), I was used to play on good quality boards and pieces (Dutch, both made from wood). The first tourneys I played in the Eastern bloc were very tough, because they used plastic pieces on folding cardboard boards and somehow the worse playing materials were a distraction.

Maybe having your own playing materials with good quality and playing on it often could solve the problem?!
