I think being tired is a very valid excuse for a BG player.

It's a terrible excuse. Everybody enters a backgammon tournament with the goal (or hope) of winning the tournament. To do so, you're going to have to win a lot of matches, possibly late at night, and make decisions under adverse conditions. By the very nature of backgammon tournaments, the winner will have gone through physically, mentally, and psychologically demanding conditions.

Back to my baseball analogies. Baseball players don't exclude their stats on days when they weren't feeling 100% -- you have to play through injuries a bit. Furthermore, if you want to win the World Series, you're going to have to play deep into October. Simply because your team has played 30 spring training games, 162 regular season games, and 10+ postseason games, your team is going to be tired and banged up. But those are the games that count the most.

If you want to "dismiss" your performance when you are tired or not 100%, then you're dismissing the condition you are most likely to be in when you reach the finals of the next event you play in. So, if you do nothing to address your performance when you're tired, then you're neglecting to address a facet of your game in matches that mean the most.
