In Response To: Limits on checker shuffling? (Smcrtorchs)

Good points, Smcrtorchs.

There are two questions:

1. What is the best practice for players to follow when they are trying out different plays?

2. How should this be reflected in the rules?

For now I'm more concerned with question #1.

Personally, I think some players do too much checker shuffling. But they are doing nothing wrong under the current rules, which simply say, "A player shall move the checkers in an unambiguous manner, using only one hand." I would like to clarify what "unambiguous" means when it comes to trying out different plays.

There are two competing concerns: (1) The desire of a player to be able to visualize alternate plays. (2) The desire of his opponent to be able to easily following what's happening.
