Good ruling/Bad Rule

I disagree strongly with David's comment that the director should not be called and the player should just hit the clock.

1. Anything there is a question about what rule should apply, the director should make the decision, not the players; 2. By hitting the clock you might cause the player to time out when you had no right to hit the clock or possibly you might have been wrong about it being an illegal play in the first place.

I believe that if you believe your opponent made an illegal play, he should not have his clock turned back on until both players agree that is was illegal. And while they are discussing it, the clock should be stopped so that neither player is penalized.
