I don't think Americans can deal with even the items you mention. Just because it comes in a 750mL container doesn't mean we know what that means or can convert it. We just buy the damn bottle.

This week at one of my trivia nights we were asked the difference in meters of a nautical mile and a regular mile. I couldn't remember if a meter was slightly more or slightly less than a yard knowing that a mile was 1,760 yards (5,280ft) I wanted to know if a meter was over or under a yard (3ft). I asked my teammate. My teammate who has a PH. D. in economics and is a professor at The Ohio State University ... he didn't even have an idea what a meter was and his exact quote: "A meter? I don't need to know that, I'm American!"
