In fact, the gaming industry and casinos DO use balled shaped dice.

In the casino's from the king kong wooden ones you see in those automated craps machines, to the smaller and more normal sized ones in many "caged" dice games. (Albeit I've yet to see ball-edged dice in any game where the players touch the dice)

And there ARE gaming industry production, finishing, size and weight tolerances and criteria for cornering ball-edge dice that are equal or greater than the typical razor-edge dice you normally see! (see my manufacturing post)

A surprising tidbit aside, the last 2 World Board Gaming Championships I attended (early 2000s, before I got into tourney BG) All games using dice, where feasable, were provided and had to use precision polyhedral dice. (and I believe that was extended to all games, all rounds after that, but i can not attest to that)
