A Vegas ruling situation

No, Gary is a pretty nice guy, polite and everything and a good player too... if unorthodox. (I would know about unorthodox).
Since he is unassuming there hasn't been any great big firestorm of controversy over this. Like Malcolm, he just starts setting up his camera like he is entitled to do so. Either you are intimidated enough to acquiesce, (sp), or you ask for a file.
Then Gary tells you if he "gets around to it" he will send you a file. Experience has shown that he never gets around to it, despite sometimes having to promise to do so to be allowed to record by the TD. I realized after starting this thread that it might be more appropriate to ask if anyone has ever received a match file from Gary.
Maybe I did, early on, I don't remember. But lately he has just recorded match after match quietly and then never delivered. Evidently he thinks that he is doing all the work and nobody but him deserves a match file...
OR: He is not transcribing any of them, which is hard for me to believe.
IF you are not going to transcribe a match, then why record it? There is no valid reason, yet people like Phil will support his right to record.
Meanwhile, if Phil records or does something, he gets paid for it. What a paradox!
I suppose that we who have been voted Giants ought to allow our matches to be used and abused and not claim any rights to them. But who exactly is doing the learning from them? Anyone who records because the TD put in is stupid flyer that we are recording friendly in order to maximize the number of players willing to travel to his tournament? Appeal to the maximum number of players possible and then deal with any repercussions later?
Honestly, my game has reached a level at which I should receive some compensation for it. You can't come to Vegas and videotape Celine Dion, you know? I couldn't charge anyone for watching the Dual Duel final, but I embraced the crowd. People routinely watch my doubles matches, and vote me into the Giants of backgammon... Over concerted protests here at bgonline.
Come on, people. Is it asking too fucking much to want a silly match file if you are going to ask me a favor and record our match? Do I really OWE you for transcribing it?
I have voluntarily paid people to record matches, and still not gotten copies before. I paid Julius High $50 for the Vegas final which was entered into XG as we played. My opponent Ethan Nissani was patient and helpful and we waited as Julius had a few problems getting set up and during the play when we went too fast. I have no idea if Ethan thought to pay Julius, so I handled it and I tipped Howard's staff too. Many a backgammon bum shirks that responsibility!
I do a lot of entertaining and I play pretty good. There is no charge for this. If you assume that you can record my match without any consideration for me whatsoever, then I beg to differ.
