Hopefully you can have fun while also taking the tournament seriously and trying to win.

your logic would seem to demand that I exploit all the crazy rules about irregularities to my maximum advantage.

Your commitment is to play well, within the rules of the game and good sportsmanship. It is not good sportsmanship to intentionally make an inferior play because you have a side interest.

This is not such a big a deal for the Under 4 PR Club. But there are examples where players having a side interest that is different than winning the tournament which are very bad for backgammon.
