Why?

I know that there is a strong correlation between points per event and ELO (I've actually run it).

However, why is using ELO better? What if a certain player consistently underperforms in money rounds, due to handling the pressure less well?

Certainly there are players who are not as good with $ play as tournament play. The pressures and stresses are different. I can think of several players I'd prefer playing in one setting over the other.
