Masters events - What???

This is what gets rated by USBGF, since 2009:

(1) "The Main event – all flights in all divisions;"

(2) "The major side events with longer match lengths typically started the day before the Main event, often called “Masters” and “Advanced” Jackpot – but regardless of the name chosen for the particular event."

Other side events are not rated.

I'm at a loss to understand why Keene argues that Masters events should not be rated. Surely an Elo system that rates all major events has more meaning than an Elo system that excludes some.

As to why USBGF does not rate other side events ("blitzes, jackpots, quickies"), the best reason is, I think, that to do so would enormously increase the amount of work required to record, communicate and enter match results in the USBGF Elo system database.
