In Response To: a further answer to fernando (Fernando Neumark)

It seems because, years ago, seeding caused complaints - especially with relation to giving byes (which doesn't have to happen) - there are those who never want it tried again. Ever.

I suppose, at the end of the day, if no TD/organiser is prepared to take a risk on attendance, then it won't happen. (Except with the very successful St Albans Open.)

Just a few more thoughts:

1) Some weaker players (at least) seem to love the chance to beat a strong player. (Who'd have thought it? Must be masochists.) With seeding, they are more likely to get the chance to do so, rather than be knocked out early doors by another weak player.

2) If seeding does attract more strong players, again, the scalp hungry weaker player is well catered for.

2) For those weaker players that are desperate to avoid the stronger ones early on, seeding balances them out in the draw sheet. That is, though a newbie will definitely have some in their section of the draw, neither can they unluckily draw a preponderance of them.

4) Again, for the weaker player who just wants a run in the tournament, they should consider that - though seeding means they are more likely to go out in an earlier round - if they do beat a seeded player early on then they take over that 'cushy' seeded place in the draw sheet!
