"If it's unfair to top players to risk getting a tough opponent because of chance, then it's equally unfair to make them risk bad rolls because of chance. Seeding players makes as little sense as letting them re-roll dice they don't like."

That is quite a humorous piece of reasoning!

"Yes, as Phil says they travel a long way to get to tournaments. Just like everyone else. It's not uncommon for two players from a local club to play each other at a major tournament. So what?"

No one is suggesting that there should be geographical seeding; a husband and wife could well be drawn against each other, for example (even more so if they live hundreds of miles apart).

"Seeded tournaments are a bad idea. I don't see why anyone would want to win an event that way."

Yes, Federer's 5 consecutive Wimbledon titles were demeaned by the fact he was the top seed for the last four.
