I think Matt is onto something here.

The side pool—as it is currently structured—is a wonderful way for those who want to wager more to to do just that. And it's great that they can increase their bets with little or no rake added on.

At the same time, entry fees are kept lower for players like me who are more interested the in the challenges of the game than they are the gambling. Besides the fact that I am only a mediocre player, the main reason I do not participate in side pools is simply because I prefer to keep my bets low. It has nothing to do with Giants winning too much.
