>> However, one would think that the most reliable results would come from voting by players who are familiar with clock usage, and those would tend to be more serious players.

Yes of course - that is the intended target audience. However, as a minimum, people who have played with clocks at least once should be entitled to give their opinion. (I have just added this guidance to the instructions at the top of the poll). Perhaps, I should have added a specific question for, 'roughly how many times have you used a clock' or somesuch but i wanted to keep the survey as brief as possible (plus I think there is a limit on number of free questions).. lesson learned #1 for v3.

>> So holding it open for the occasional player would at best not get more votes and at worst tally uneducated votes.

That's not the reason why I initially suggested three months ('holding it open for the occasional player'). It was more that people happen across posts sometimes a month or two after posting rather than weeks. Maybe people sometimes take breaks from BGO and come back a month or two later and catch up on the posts they have missed. I know I have done this myself a few times.

By the way, do you have any recommendations for any other sites / groups I should invite to the poll?

>> I never doubted that you were wanting an unbiased view but intent isn't always sufficient

Agreed.

>> Regarding bias, do you have a way of preventing "stuffing the ballot box"? (By that I mean one person being able to vote multiple times.)

Good point. No. I looked into this before and I could perhaps have locked it down by emailing the entire BGO memberlist with individual emails (and unique links), but some might have seen this as a bit intrusive or 'spammy'. Also, this method would not work for other backgammon sites where the email addresses are private / there is no mailing list. However there is still some basic IP checking and multiple submissions are not allowed unless one makes some effort to bypass this restriction. Like you, I will just trust that people are helpful and honest - it's not like this is a world-changing topic or there is a fat cash prize at the end!

Thanks again for your valuable feedback.
