That's true, but I doubt a seed wants to give up a buy in order to avoid playing another seed.

Beyond that, the best players are served by having a large field, which is less likely with seeding. Average players are less likely to keep attending tournaments if they keep getting knocked out early, or think they're more likely to face a seed in the final.
