I haven't had a chance to study this paper yet, but hope to soon. In the meantime, I don't agree with Bob's reasoning here. Examples are not part of the logical defense of the theory. They're just examples. They should be chosen to be illuminating. Imagine if I were to choose an example using a random-number generator and happened to get one that was completely unilluminating, or perhaps even atypical and misleading. It would be foolish to insist that science demands that the example must be used. That would represent a misunderstanding of what scientific papers are about.
