Regarding Walter's 49/6 with -3

If I recall correctly, that is not the way Walter presented the rule, and the way he presented it leaves room for interpretation. At least I interpreted it differently, namely: Take the epc of the player on roll, subtract 22 and then divide by 7. I.e. if the player on roll has what is commonly referred to as an N-roll position (where N does not mean the average number of rolls to bear off), point of last take is at an epc difference of N-3.

Is there anything out there that can be used for the full range of race cubes?

I don't think so. But for pips-vs-pips positions I'd just use a standard offset of about -7 to convert epc to a "virtual raw pip count" and use rule 62 from there.
