While I don't necessarily disagree, let me note that

a lot of complaints concerning all three of these

is actually a good thing. Take the Giants of Backgammon survey for example. If this were some obscure list that nobody read or cared about, there wouldn't be any complaints. People complain is because it is such an honor to be on the list that when a deserving player is omitted it is a big deal.

The same is true with the ABT and World Championships.
