Why create a system we know is flawed?

why bother to institute a ranking system we know is flawed and probably inaccurate when we can do a more general one that is far less flawed and far more reflective of a player’s ability?

Phil, who exactly is going to do it? Who does "we" stand for? Ken did put forth an explicit proposal. All he heard back so far is:

(a) you are an idiot

(b) it is flawed

(c) it is totally irrelevant

and not a single constructive counter proposal. Are we still surprised regarding the reasons for the current state of backgammon?
