A Proposal to Start the US Backgammon Federation

I believe forming a national association is a vehicle which has tremendous potential in popularizing the game as well as making the game more enjoyable for those already playing.
I fully support your efforts and will contribute in any way I can. I would consider it an honor to serve as a director of such an organization if chosen.
From the conversations I have had with players and TD's over the years, the only reason an association had not been formed is that there was no one out there that would take it on. The conventional wisdom seemed to be that someone would have to do lots of work, full time or close to it, without the assurance of adequate financial compensation for the time invested, and be faced with such disparate views from those with vested interests, the TD's, that the organization might never get anywhere.
I think the structure of your proposed organization, technogoical advances in communications , and a backgammon community that is making progress together, ie. rules, clocks, and some progress on ratings, makes this a viable undertaking.
I believe all of the directors chosen in this organization will work without any thought of financial compensation for their time. If clerical support is needed, it can be outsourced (paid by part of the dues), or perhaps volunteers can be found. I don't think the President of this organization, at this stage will need to give up whatever other work this person might be doing, so I don't see finances for the personnel as an issue any longer.
Of course this organization cannot thrive without sufficient membership from the community but I for one am optimistic, and you have my thanks for this initiative.
