Mochy/Simborg Duel Announced

I absolutely do not want to bet on PR for a couple of reasons: 1) I think I will get killed--I doubt I will play within 3 PR of Mochy because I am starting off holding the cube and I have a far greater chance to make cube errors than he does; 2) we don't want to make this a PR fight...it is about money game skill, and both Mochy and I want to be able to focus on a different kind of battle than a PR battle...we want to both try to defeat our opponent in money play, and we both know that might mean using pressure, maneuvering positions to our advantage, playing the clock.
If you really want to measure PR differences between two people, I am convinced that the best way to do this is in a "duplicate backgammon" session, as that is as close as you can come to comparing skill in identical situations. Yes, it is not the same as playing an opponent, but I have done this in practice and in exhibitions and it truly does separate the skills. Picture an entire match with identical, difficult positions of all kinds in all kinds of games and the players have to decide on cube and checker play at the same time under the same conditions. I believe you can really see who is best and how far apart they are.
In a competition like Mochy and I are playing, it could easily happen that one of us simply is presented with a lot more difficult decisions than the other, so the PR difference in a 30 game set would be of little value.
What we do know, from much history, is that Mochy is around 3 PR better than me given overall games and matches, but how that will relate in a single session, and how that might change because I have the cube...that's what we're hoping to find out.
This is more like the old days...when two people disagreed, they proped it. We are going to challenge each other over the board...it's not about what XG says.
