In Response To: Mochy/Simborg Duel Announced (Chuck Bower)

In money play we have formulas such as trice and Keith that tell you exactly when to take and when to cube or recube. Yes, those formulas are not 100 percent accurate, but with a little common sense to adjust for some of the things I-sight has taught us and a little experience, even I can be pretty accurate on virtually all racing cubes for money.

At match scores, even if I do know exactly what the take point and recube Vig and doubling windows are for the one score--and I sometimes have to estimate and calculate those numbers, I do not have an exact doubling point to apply--I can only guess or estimate when I have too many market losers.

I see Giants make racing cube errors all the time in matches (look at Ed's 8 cube to Ray this weekend when he was leading 7away/13 away--it wasn't a terrible error but he thought a long time and Ed is far more skilled than almost all of us and he miscalculated)--but I don't see errors of this magnitude very often by far lesser players in money games.

But what about more complex situations when you also have to factor in hammond when the gammon values for both sides are different and the take points and recube Vig might not be memorized? I have seen, and made, huge blunders here.

But the major point here is rally this: how well will Mochy and I play for money and is my greatly inferior play overcome by the advantage of holding the cube? That is what this exercise is about, plus the fun of doing this with XG showing and great commentary. This might even be something that would make a YouTube video that might attract some attention to the game and get more people talking about backgammon. We are even working on trying to get at casino in Vegas to be a sponsor and provide a pot for us to play for just like a heads up poker tournament.

No matter what the outcome, this should be fun to do and watch and we hope, a little publicity for the game. Backgammon need to have the public see that we have someone who can play almost as well as a bot and someone who is extremely good looking to challenge him.
