In Response To: Mochy/Simborg Duel Announced (Phil Simborg)

I don't understand why this experiment attracted so much interest but I hope that I will when it's over.

What I find interesting is that someone likened this to Mochy's doubling after the first roll and Simborg agreed with the "correction/clarification" that he won't have an initial beaver.

It was also clarified that Jacoby rule will not apply if he doesn't redouble.

Not long ago, an article in RGB ("A new era in BG cube skill begins: mo more "incubating"..." --- https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/rec.games.backgammon/qmzOUbnoTbk) made very interesting proposals based on the value of the cube ownership, just as this experiment is based on.

It also talked about one player doubling after the first or second roll and ended with a reference to "Jacoby".

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to have generated any discussion, perhaps it has gone over the heads of RBG readership(??). But I think the readership of this forum and especially of this particular thread will be depriving their brains from exotic food :) if they don't at least read it...

One of the reasons that article is very relevant here is that it aims to prevent one player from "sitting on the cube".

In this experiment, for example, if Simborg never redoubles (which is perhaps exactly what he should do, especially himself having opined that "Mochy will not make cube errors"), they will effectively end up having played a series of cubeless games each worth 2 points... ;) Even though this would make Jacoby unhappy... :(

Let's ask ourselves: "If Mochy can trade the cube for PR once, why can't he do it again later in the same game (i.e. turn the cube again and let Simborg still keep it)?"

As long as the value of the cube ownership is known and the price is paid, why not??

That's what the above mentioned article talks about, which actually goes way beyond (and I would say above) this experiment...
