What attracts you to tournaments?

I am saying that many players (and many very good players between them) do not like gambling and would not play in a tournament with high entry fees even if it is financially at their own benefit. They play only for the game and they do not like the money part of tournaments (even if they sometimes afford to play for much more money if the want to).

Although I do not know many things about chess tournaments I think I read in this forum that entry fees are usually low. Something like this could be good for backgammon, although I have to admit that we do not have enough/big sponsors to cover the costs.

Given the lack of sponsors, organizing satellites which will make costs lower could help.
