Chess is indeed a competitive mind sport, and clearly it is felt in that game that forgetting to press ones clock after a move is worthy of negative consequences for the player (less time to think in the rest of the game, or even immediately losing that game). Whether or not this seems right to a person is surely down to their own inbuilt sense of 'Right and Wrong', ie the kind of world we want to live in?

Of course, we might not feel like doing this interminably, so it may seem to some that, at the very least, pointing out to your opponent on the first (and perhaps also second) such occurrence in a game (or match) feels 'right'.

I'm sorry if you feel I haven't answered your question. Perhaps, ultimately, we have to answer such questions ourselves?
