It is true that you may keep some players in the hotel longer by holding a tiny event on Sunday, but it feels a little like extortion to me.
I do not think that Sundays should be filled with people sitting around with nothing to do and all going home. I would really like to see a high-entry fee small (say, 8-player) JP. 3 rounds could be finished in 4-5 hours or so. That would be much more likely to keep me interested in the tournament than a 10:30AM 8+ hour blitz.
Others might like to play in some smaller JPs, say for $10, $20 or $50.
I would like to see lectures, awards ceremonies, nice dinners, and the like. And one thing I would really like to see on Sunday is a chouette. I know that's not exactly up to to the director, but what about keeping a list of interested players and facilitating some sort of side games? Food for thought.
