I've never understood the argument nor the concern about the LC being to increase Saturday night hotel room nights.
When do people play in a progressive LC? That is after losing your 2nd match assuming that you're one of the 25% who loses two matches in a row. What time that does 2nd loss typically occur on Saturday? Maybe 3 or 4 pm. Even if you lose quickly in rd 1 and have a quick loser to play and lose quickly again, are you really checking out of the hotel room at 2 pm at the earliest and then driving home? Maybe you can convince the hotel to give you a break for half price, noting that checkout was 11am or 12 pm. But even then, what's the sense of that.
Are you leaving early Sat. aft and changing your flight reservations? That can cost more than the night in the hotel!
What about those who drove with some other players? Are they leaving after two quick losses?
Who cares if someone who lives in the area, like me when there's Chicago ABT's goes home Saturday after getting knocked out of conso by dinner (0-2 or maybe 1-2 record) and then that person goes home and doesn't come back anyhow. That person isn't staying in the hotel anyway since home is less than 45 minutes drive.
In short, concern about room nights (some hotels have a quota for directors) is completely not a reason to hold a LC or to hold a fresh draw LC on Sunday.
