What is the best (fairest and most efficient) way to tie-break 4 player round robins?

Sorry, but I hate using the score as an indicator, as that creates a huge luck factor. I might have played a game where I correctly recubed to 8 and lost, while the other players made all kinds of errors but lost by a smaller score.

If you want to reward for skill, the best way to break the tie, if available, is PR. If you don't have the PR's of all the matches readily available, and it rarely is, then I would find some skill-based way of breaking the tie.

Is there time for a short round robin? Then do it.

If not, is there time for a 1-point single-elimination tournament? Then do it.

If there is no time, then offer a 5 question quiz and the player with the best score wins.
