OK - there is a problem of possible collusion, if only one of the players (at best) can go through, they can jack up the cube level - see Mochy's critic you linked to.

A second problem is that if you lose a lot of money in your first money match (say bad luck on 2 high cube games), you will be GP depleted, and play against other that are GP depleted. As you can only win the minimum of what you and the other one has, and continue to be paired with other with similar number of GPs, you may never recover and gather enough GP to qualify. In a normal DE tournament, you would have many more chances to catch up.

I am not saying that Garalgammon is a worthless idea, but it makes sense that if you want to convince people of its merits, you ought to make the efforts to argue its case, and not ask others to make the argument why the prevalent tournament type is best.
