What is the best (fairest and most efficient) way to tie-break 4 player round robins?

In Response To: What is the best (fairest and most efficient) way to tie-break 4 player round robins? (Casper Van der Tak)

Instead of a round robin do the following.

A plays B and C plays D. Winners play each other and losers play each other. You then have one player at 2-0 who wins the group and one at 0-2 who loses group. If you need to break the 2nd 3rd place tie have the two 1-1 players play each other.
