In Response To: my take on the situation (christian munk-christensen)

"How many times can an experienced player make an illegal play during one match before it starts to look fishy?"

It's a reasonable question you pose, but one suspects that the frequency of Ed's illegalities here were a function of him generally being nervous which, certainly later on in the match, he comes across as being. The fact he dropped the cup also fits in with this, and even that he forgot to shake the dice on several occasions following the incident.

It does raise the question though of whether time or score penalties should come into force after a player has made more than one or two illegal plays in a match.

The ruling seems correct, but Mitrelis did seem to get the short end of the straw considering all the illegalities and sloppiness that was evident. Watching and listening to an hour or more of the video - especially around the incident - he doesn't come across as someone who was trying to gain an unfair advantage. He is also one of the most thorough dice shakers you are ever likely to meet, experiencing a significant time penalty there himself.

Ironic that the match should be decided in a photo finish, as if there hadn't been enough drama!
