I am not quite sure what you think I was implying. It seems like you thought I was implying that a results based system would yield reasonable conclusions despite the sample size issues. I am not seeing how that comes out of my post.

But on that subject if VRR were used and players were credited with not full wins or losses but instead a partial victory based on VRR then an Elo system would in fact be reliable. This also avoids the many problems that PR has such as bot not being perfect, quirks of how one can improve it artificially, and penalizing for practical play against non ideal opponents.
