The convergence speed is a very interesting issue and I've been curious about it ever since it was drawn to my attention by Mochy. This could be an example of the "Hiawatha effect" where VRR is unbiased but PR converges faster.

For long matches, intuition does seem to suggest that PR should converge faster because it will "notice" errors early in the match whereas VRR will not.

In principle it should not be too hard to run some bot-vs-bot experiments to verify this.
