Some things to consider *long*

Until the day arrives when all live tournament matches are played on computers - and I know some people would like to see that but I suspect a large majority of players do not want to see that, as there's just something wonderful aesthetically about the sound of real dice in a real cup rolled onto a real board and real checkers slapped on the bar, sounds as pleasing as the crack of a batted ball to a baseball fan...
The day of the computer backgammon board will come I'm sure. Our children might well play on one and think nothing of it in a decade or so. Forget the cameras, forget the baffle box and need for separate clocks, forget illegal moves, forget transcription. We all play timed matches that allow the scheduling of rounds for tournament directors more easily. The upsides are obvious.
Will I miss playing on my one-of-a-kind all leather bg board in a tournament? Yes indeed, but our game needs the improvements that playing electronically gives us.
