I think one set of dice without a clock is not a good addition. To clarify I do not think that "tapping" is a standard that should be taking place anywhere people are playing random people. It may be fine between friends when there is no discussion of whether or not something is a tap or not. At least every other tourney I go to I hear a nearby table discussing something related to a tap.

Intermediate should be made to use a clock as well.. there should be more generous time controls.. like "15 secs and 2.5 minutes" ..

It is much clearer as to who is on roll and much clearer is the turn if over. I spent a minute staring at a board after I turned my head for a second and didn't realize my opponent had tapped.. after checking out a position for a while.

At the very least it should be specified that a clock as a dice control mechanism with no time constraints can take preference over tapping.

Luckily no one has refused to use a clock as a dice mechanism instead of tapping when I have asked.
