Note that with the prior ABT dead cube rule, except for 1-away 1-away, the cube would always start the game live and only become dead mid-game. And while never written down, I believe that directors have consistently ruled that a player cannot pass a cube if doing so loses them the match.Ross:
I don't think that's true.My question had to do with this exchange, where Rich was talking only about the 2009 rule. Is there something in Rich's comment above that you think is incorrect?
I do understand the new rule, and I prefer it. You cannot make this error online, or against a computer. If we allow the error in live play, that's a divergence in the game. This is also one of the reasons (admittedly, only a small one) that I like codifying Legal Moves, even though Responsible Moves is easier to implement and would probably be better for my personal results.
