Is it legal to play legal moves in a non legal moves tourney?

I am all for legal moves only, and there has to be something intrinsically wrong with a rule that creates so much controversy.

As you say, the rules entitle you to an arbitrary handicap by announcing that you will insist on legal plays only from your op even if it is to your disadvantage, and even if he does not reciprocate your good intentions.

But once you have committed yourself, if your op legally exploits your illegal play/action, not only are you morally obliged to continue the match with your self-inflicted handicap, but you have no reasonable grounds to criticise his actions. Just saying.
