In Response To: Impossible Move in Connecticut (Taper_Mike)

Quite a statement indeed, Mike. Never heard of such a thing, but it would be one for the record books.

I still maintain that the simplest and best solution to this (IMO spurious) problem, and others too, is to abolish the Calcutta. If the director needs the Calcutta's rake, either charge a registration fee that brings in the same overall chunk of change (it will be quite small per player!) or use the time saved to run a couple more side events.

I would much rather play in, say, a 3-point Nackgammon event or one of Bill Davis' oddities such as three-dice backgammon, or whatever, than sit through another auction where I am told everyone there is a "fine player from..." wherever the sheet says they are from. I would also rather pay, say, $10 more as a registration fee and have the tournament start on time!
