4.8 ILLEGAL MOVES. A player may condone his opponent’s illegal play by rolling his dice or turning the cube. Otherwise, he must require the opponent to replay the entire roll legally.

Until the rules are changed, we *must* abide by the rules.

There is nothing in the rules that forced Herb to require the illegal play stand! Had he allowed his checker to remain on the bar, he would still abide by the rules. So all those "he simply followed the rules" arguments are anything but convincing.
